2022 APPLICATION
The Toledo Junior Golf Association has created the Paul Szymanski Spirit Award to honor the TJGA member who embodies Paul’s love of life as well as the game of golf yet may have dealt with an obstacle in their life.
- Paul was the president of the Toledo Junior Golf Association from 1998 – 2001 and a board member until 2009.
- He was also the 1981 Toledo District Golf Association Junior Match Play champion.
Paul’s contributions to Toledo Junior Golf are immeasurable and we owe much of our organization’s success to him. Paul was diagnosed with brain cancer in 1995 yet never allowed his medical condition to dampen his love and commitment for junior golf. Although his condition was deteriorating, Paul still played in the 2010 Chili Open which benefited the Toledo Junior Golf Association. Paul Szymanski passed away on July 3, 2010.
In honor of Paul, the Toledo Junior Golf Association has also established the Paul Szymanski Spirit Award Fund at the Toledo Community Foundation. This endowed fund will provide a $5,000 post secondary education scholarship to the recipient each year, who will be selected by a committee which includes a member of the Paul Szymanski family, as well as several TJGA board members.
The award winner of the scholarship for 2022 Claire Recker from Findlay, Ohio.
Her character and resume showed the scholarship committee that she more than deserved this award. Congratulations Claire!
